August 11 was a fun night as newcomers and lifetime residents all joined together to help author Libby McMillan Henson celebrate the release of her book The Ultimate Greenville Relocation Guide.
Popular Main Street bookstore M. Judson hosted the event. Guests arrived at 7:00 p.m. to find an array of Southern treats: pimento cheese, deviled eggs, sweet tea and pecan pie tarts, as well as wine and a selection of local beers by Quest Brewery and Thomas Creek.
Mayor Knox White introduced the author, who made some short remarks about the creation of her 160-page guidebook, which is garnering positive reviews across the city. The author’s husband, Joe Henson, took the microphone next, and invited the standing room only crowd to compete in a short trivia contest about Greenville. The answers to the questions were all inside the book, he said, while joking that anyone who purchased a copy right then could take an open-book test.
Even lifetime residents were stumped by two questions: the state animal of South Carolina, and the call letters for the downtown airport. The overall winner, with the highest score, was Bonnie Wallen of The Greenville Humane Society.
The Greenville Newcomers Club also had three representatives in the crowd. Many other local business people were in attendance, as well as friends of the author.
The book will be available for sale indefinitely at M. Judson Booksellers, as well as at these Greenville businesses:
Amanda Henry’s Popcorn Parlour
Antiques on Augusta
Jerky & Vine
Joe’s Place bookstore and coffee shop
The Ultimate Greenville Relocation Guide is also available online through the author, here, and at Amazon.com.
